Ana Maria Stanton, MD
Endocrinology Fellow, Brigham and Women’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School
Dr. Ana Maria Stanton is a physician-scientist dedicated to advancing cardiometabolic health, especially in minority populations such as Hispanics. After completing residency and fellowship in Colombia, she moved to the U.S. to pursue clinical and translational research. She is currently an endocrinology fellow at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and recently completed the T32 hypertension training program at the Hormonal Mechanisms of Cardiovascular Injury (HMCI) Laboratory, Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Her research focuses on genetic and physiological mechanisms of salt-sensitive hypertension, including identifying a novel CACNA1D gene variant linked to increased blood pressure and salt sensitivity, published in Hypertension. This variant is associated with a blunted renal plasma flow response to dietary sodium, independent of aldosterone excess, indicating a unique form of salt-sensitive, normal-renin hypertension. She has also contributed to early detection strategies in diabetic cardiomyopathy, with publications in Current Diabetes Reports and Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
Mentored by leading investigators, her expertise includes endocrinology, cardiovascular physiology, genomics, and metabolic disease. She is committed to advancing precision medicine and reducing cardiometabolic health disparities.
